The Top Five Richest Hip Hop Artists

The music industry is full of wealthy artists and music producers, but which ones are the richest?

In joint 4th place is Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson and Brian 'Birdman' Williams both reported to be worth $100 million.

50 Cent rose to fame when he was discovered by Eminem and with the help of Dr. Dre became one of the world's highest selling rappers. He made a chunk of his fortunes by selling his share of Vitamin Water for a nine-figure pay out.

Jackson founded his own record label in 2003 called G Unit Records, which founded successful rappers Young Buck, Lloyd Banks, and Tony Yayo. As well as career in music the man has appeared in the movies, Get Rich or Die Tryin' in 2005, the Iraq War film Home of the Brave in 2006, and Righteous Kill in 2008. He has been given many accolades by Billboard Magazine with the most notable him being awarded to third best rapper of the decade 2000-2009 behind Eminem and Nelly.

Bryan Williams is co-founder of Cash Money Records and is half of the rap duo Big Tymers he also had a solo rap career back in the early 90's. He has also released a couple of albums in collaboration with Lil Wayne. Birdman also was involved in an oil and gas exploration endeavour in 2010 with his brother although this project seems to be on hold currently.

Third place on the Hip Hop rich list goes to Dr. Dre AKA Andre Young; he earned his millions from his own successful career and launching the careers of top artists such as Eminem, Snoop Dogg and fellow Hip Hop Rich Lister 50 Cent. Dr. Dre started his career at Death Row Records where in the early 90's he launched his solo album The Chronic and was one of America's biggest selling music artists in 1993. In 1996 Young left Death Row Records to start his own label Aftermath Entertainment. Young has also had a few movie roles in Set It Off, and the 2001 films The Wash and Training Day.

Second on the Hip Hop Rich List is Jay Z otherwise known as Shawn Corey Carter is reported to be worth a massive $450 million. Jay-Z has made his way to the top by creating himself as a super brand which includes fashion, club owner, advertising and more. He has a winning music career where he has sold over 50 million records since 1996 and won 13 Grammy Awards.

Shawn Carter the businessman owns the 40/40 Club, part of the New Jersey Nets and has his own clothing line Rocawear. He is a founder of Roc-A-Fella Records and Roc Nation a music publishing and entertainment company which boasts artists such as The Ting Tings, Rihanna and Mark Ronson among others.

Number one on the Hip Hop Rich list is Sean "Diddy" Combs who is worth a cool $475 million. P Diddy, formally known as Puff Daddy has a clothing line Sean John Clothing, Bad Boy Worldwide record label and has stake in a Diageo joint-venture vodka brand called Ciroc. He is a shrewd business man also owning a movie production company and two restaurants. Combs has also had an award winning music career picking up three Grammy Awards, Two MTV Video Music Awards.

Born Serena Jameka Williams in Saginaw, Michigan, September 26, 1981, Serena spent her early years in Compton where she first picked up a racquet aged five. She's been major off the court too. A Sports Illustrated model, fashion icon, designer, entrepreneur, philanthropist and so much more. But in truth, what makes this woman truly major is not how she's dealt with the good. But how she's dealt with the bad.

The bad, like everything in Serena's life, has been major. The racism she had to deal with growing up in a predominantly white sport. The brutal murder of her sister Yetunde Price, shot dead by a Crips gang member, sending Serena into depression and therapy. The stalker arrested at her Palm Beach home last year. But above all, the life-threatening health issues of the last couple of years.

At the top of her game in the summer of 2010, riding high after winning a fourth Wimbledon, Serena had the world at her feet. Sadly, at a restaurant in Munich, she had a piece of glass at her feet too. One fateful step set off a horrific chain of events: The glass cut the foot. The foot needed two operations. The operations caused a near-fatal blood clot in one of her lungs. The blood clot in her lungs needed emergency surgery, costing her part of her lung and the best part of two years of her career.

For an all-star athlete at the peak of her powers to be unable to walk, let alone fire off a forehand winner, was the cruellest of fates. Serena was at rock bottom. But, whether it's a tennis player, a creative challenge or a serious health issue, put anything in Serena's way and she puts it away.

With characteristic drive and determination, Serena threw herself into months of lonely, gruelling physiotherapy and dedicated training. She made her first appearance on the WTA tour in almost a year at Eastbourne, England, where she won her first match since Wimbledon 2010. Slowly but surely her fitness, desire, and momentum built through matches at Wimbledon, Stanford, Cincinnati and the US Open, reaching a fairy tale ending at yesterday's Wimbledon, where she won back her women's singles and doubles titles.

Last year she couldn't walk. This year she's hopping around Wimbledon centre court hoisting a trophy over her head. That's what makes Serena Williams major.
