Around 10:30 pm, a fight broke out outside the Regency Center (a venue in San Francisco's famously decrepit Tenderloin neighborhood). Nine people were hit and went to the hospital with non-threatening injuries.
"A fist fight started," explained Sergeant Lyn Tomioka of the SFPD. "The fight escalated and somebody began shooting. Nine people were hit in their lower extremities."
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the gunman fled on foot. He has been described as a black male in his 30s wearing an unbuttoned white shirt with pinstripes, white t-shirt, blue jeans and a baseball cap.
"This was at the end of an event, and several people were around at the time and witnessed what happened," said Sgt. Wilfred Williams, a Police Department spokesman. "We are encouraging those people to come forward and help us identify the shooter."
This news comes in the midst of a violent year surrounding hip-hop. Last week, a New Boyz concept erupted into a near riot in Michigan. Six people were left unconscious, while one person had a seizure and another was stabbed with a pen.
