Legendary rapper Guru passed away Monday after battling cancer for over a year. The rapper known for making "conscious rap" along with DJ Premier, had suffered cardiac arrest in early March and had been in a coma since then.
Guru, real name Keith Elam, became famous after teaming up with Premier and making the group Gang Starr. The duo released six studio albums between 1989 and 2003. The two broke up in 2003, and Guru founded 7 Grand Records with producer Solar. Solar took care of Guru in his final days and Guru's family members have complained that they were denied their right to see him. Guru's nephew posted a video on YouTube explaining how the family felt.
