Movie producer/actor Tyler Perry announced on his Web site Tuesday night that his mother, Willie Maxine Perry, passed away at the age of 64. He thanked fans for their prayers and support, but didn't divulge details about the cause of death and reportedly (understandably) has been unavailable for comment.
Since late summer Perry had shared his concerns for his mother's health via personal e-mails to his fan base and posts on his Web site, and directed followers on his Facebook and Twitter pages as early as Tuesday morning to his site posting the news of her passing. Maxine Perry's specific health issues haven't been disclosed.

Perry has often said his mother was the inspiration for his most popular character, Madea, and credits her for her strength in helping the family survive abuse from Perry's father, Emmett R. Perry, Sr.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that Maxine Perry had been a preschool teacher in New Orleans for most of her life.

Perry had previously announced live tour dates for his new play, Madea's Big Happy Family, which would kick off in Denver on January 5, 2010. Perry was scheduled to spend about a year on the road touring with the play, but there is no word on how the recent news of his mother's death will impact the show.
Leave any condolences for the Perry family in the Comments section below.
